Lenses

I enjoy exploring various lens ideas and lens creation tools, as it is a good way to get a feel for the state of the medium. Additionally, it's fun to see people use something you made.

1946 Baker Bomb Test

This project, made with Arkit, was an exploration in spatializing archival footage whose subject matter was inherently spatial. The aim was to more accurately represent the magnitude and impact of events in a way 2D film cannot.

Art 169 VR Interactions Documentation

I helped create the curriculum for as well as implemented the starter code for ART 169 at Stanford University. The class and the projects focused on the modes of interaction in VR—both their affordances and their limitations.

A Trip Down Market Street NA

Another exploration of the Market Street footage from 1906. This time using a machine learning to recolorize the footage. This short film was an investigation into video in which you can scrub through both time and space. As a future project I would like to implement this effect in realtime rather than post-production.

A Trip Down Market Street NA Audio Interactive

An exploration of the famous 1906 Market Street footage and my own footage. I created point cloud models of both pieces of footage and then used granular synthesis to manipulate sound files based on your speed through the models. Additionally, granular synthesis is used to approximate some feeling of time travel when you pass between models.

Rain

Rain is a Midi controlled visualizer created in Unity each falling rain drop corresponds with a played note. In the above video musician Corey Loftus uses Rain the provide vizuals to accompany their music.

The Sound of Chess

The Sound of Chess is a mobile app for IOS and Andriod that allows users to sonify and listen to chess games. Users can play their own game or listen to historic games such as Einstien vs Oppenhiemer in the above video. Users can also can adjust paramters to the realtime synth engines to change the generative sounds.

Hi, I'm Joseph Moreno. I work in virtual reality, augmented reality, interactive art, and speculative design. I am excited and enamored with the possibilities, prospects, and potential for embodied interfaces to allow us to more naturally use our technology. I also enjoy procedurally generated music especially combined with realtime 3D.
